Best Halloween Pumpkin Patches in Wichita Falls
Halloween is right around the corner and the annual tradition is to carve those beautiful pumpkins. Here is a list of our favorite pumpkin patches in the Wichita Falls area.
1. Painted Pony Rides
Painted Pony Rides is located at 4376 Airport Dr in Wichita Falls. Their pumpkin patch opens October 1 and the hours are: Monday thru Friday 4:30 PM til dark.
Saturdays and Sundays 10:00 AM til dark. They have lots of pumpkins for sale, pony rides, bounce house and a petting zoo. Check out the Painted Pony Rides website. You can also call them at (940) 781-4949.
2. Smith’s Gardentown Farms
Smith’s Gardentown always has a huge selection of pumpkins every year. They are located at 4940 Seymour Hwy and are open M-Sat 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM and Sundays Noon – 4:00 PM. This year they’ve added a pumpkin ride for the kiddos. Rides are $1 per child and will be given Wednesday – Friday 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM and Saturdays 10 AM to 2:00 PM. 3. University United Methodist Church
Right across from Midwestern State University is University United Methodist Church. They usually have hay rides for the kids and always a good selection of pumpkins. Their pumpkin patch opens October 2 and the hours are Weekdays 2-7, Saturdays 9-7, Sundays 1-7. Check out the University United Methodist Church website.
4. United Market Street
Market Street would love for all of you to come by and check out their fancy display of pumpkins of all kinds. Located at 4590 Kell Blvd, you’re sure to find just the right pumpkin for your fall decor and Halloween jack-o-lantern carving.
Now if you just can’t bring yourself to spend the money on a pumpkin, and have young kids that don’t even know what day Halloween is, you can go to Wal-Mart the day after Halloween. They will have pumpkins outside for you to take home for FREE. This way you can still celebrate carving a pumpkin with your kids at no price.
BONUS: River Bend Nature Center
River Bend Nature Center isn’t having a pumpkin patch this year, but they are having their 10th annual Not-So-Scary Halloween Nature Night on Friday, October 17 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. There will be a costume contest starting at 7:30 pm, face painting, music, tasty food, cool games, fun crafts, a cake walk, pumpkin decorating, candy, a Flashlight Fun Trail through United Children’s Garden, and Wild Bird Rescue’s “Stevie” the Great Horned Owl will make a special appearance! DJ Marcus “Maniac” McGee will be DJing throughout the night. The Ruby N. Priddy Butterfly and Nature Conservatory will also be open for you to enjoy.
Admission is $5 a person, $2 for children in costume with paid parent, and RBNC members are free! Visit the Red River Nature Center website for more information. River Bend is located at 2200 3rd St. near the main entrance to Lucy Park.
If carving the pumpkins is not your thing, here is something fun that you may not know about – pumpkin chunkin. This is where you take the free pumpkins and catapult them into a field.
