Carlos Santana Says Beyonce Is Not a ‘Singer Singer,’ Adele Deserved Grammys
Carlos Santana, who's previously performed with Beyonce at Super Bowl XXXVII, said in an interview with the Australian Associated Press that Adele is Beyonce's vocal superior, and that while Beyonce's talented, she simply doesn't match up.
"I think that Adele won because she can sing, sing," Santana said. "With all respect to our sister Beyonce, Beyonce is very beautiful to look at and it's more like modeling kind of music — music to model a dress. She's not a singer, singer, with all respect to her"
"Adele can sing, sing," Santana added. "She doesn't bring all the dancers and props, she can just stand there and she just stood there and sang the song and that's it, and this is why she wins."
Outlets from the New York Times to CNN have insisted Beyonce likely deserved the Album of the Year distinction, especially considering its political tones and cultural implications. Even Adele, herself, said in her Album of the Year acceptance speech that the trophy belonged to Beyonce, and that Lemonade changed her life and the lives of many others.
"It was so monumental and so well thought out and so beautiful and soul-baring and we all got to see another side to you that you don’t always let us see and we appreciate that," she said. "And all us artists here adore you. You are our light, and the way that you make me and my friends feel, the way you make my black friends feel, is empowering and you make them stand up for themselves."
