Dove recently did an experiment which they’ve called Real Beauty Sketches. The concept was simple: Women would describe themselves to an artist who had never seen them, and then others who had become acquainted with the women would have their turn describing the woman to the artist. Two sketches were made, with the results being different for each one.

The purpose of the experiment was to show women that there really is a difference between how they view themselves and how others view them. Though you might think that your forehead is too big or your eyes are too small, it doesn’t mean that others see you the same way.

Here’s how Dove describes the experiment:

Women are their own worst beauty critics. Only 4% of women around the world consider themselves beautiful. At Dove, we are committed to creating a world where beauty is a source of confidence, not anxiety. So, we decided to conduct a compelling social experiment that explores how women view their own beauty in contrast to what others see.
