Geraldo Rivera is joining the ranks of other would-be East Coast politicians.

After announcing that he was considering running for office in New Jersey, he pulled a borderline Anthony Weiner with a Twitter selfie that he later took down, forgetting that screenshots are forever. Now, the Fox News anchor is putting his tail -- along with his towel -- between his legs and taking a cue from a different Foxx: Jamie.

He's blaming it on the alcohol.

Rivera posted the following photo in the wee hours of Saturday morning with the caption, "70 is the new 50 (Erica and family are going to be so pissed … but at my age…)."

Apparently Rivera's family is actually the entire world, because none of us wanted nor needed to see that.

Explaining himself to radio show 'Scott + Todd in the Morning' on 95.5 WPLJ FM, he admitted, "I took it Saturday morning. I was back in the bathroom at 2:30. I had a couple of drinks. I said ‘Dammit, I like that picture!' I learned how to use Twitter a couple weeks ago.”

"This weekend was tequila. I never do tequila when I’m alone and I had a new bottle that someone had given me. I got so many bottles for my birthday."

"My 18-year-old had written me in all caps saying 'TAKE THAT THING DOWN RIGHT NOW.'"

"It seemed like a great idea at the time."

Uh, to whom, exactly?

"I took it down the next day after I heard from Fox," he confessed. "I just heard from Fox to take it down."

Thankfully, it looks like Rivera learned his lesson:

And the world breathes a collective sigh of relief.
