Haley Smith is a true flower child in our face-paced, technology-laden era. During her introduction to the American public, Smith said she was most at peace in nature, but we could see she was really at ease soaking up the limelight during her audition on ‘American Idol.’

The laid-back 18-year-old from Utah sang the R&B classic, ‘Tell Me Something Good,’ (originally performed by Rufus & Chaka Khan) and put her own unique spin on the 1974 hit. The judges quickly took notice with Randy Jackson remarking that he loved the commitment to who Smith is.

No one was more enamored with Haley than Mr. Steven Tyler, saying, “I love your voice. So much. Right out of my era. I’m honored to be here listening to your voice.” Quite the compliment for a newcomer!

While, we weren’t blown away by Haley’s vocals, we could definitely see why the judges punched her ticket to Hollywood. She’s earthy, authentic and certainly has a one-of-a-kind air about her.

Looks like Smith will be putting her vocation as a vegetarian butcher on hold–at least for a little while.
