If you have a dog or a cat who needs to be spayed or neutered, now is the time to do it! The Humane Society of Wichita County is offering free alterations during the months of July and August.

It’s possible through a grant called “Beat the Heat,” and it comes from the Department of State Health Services with funds from the animal friendly license plates program. So far the grant has already altered 246 animals.

There are 8 counties that can be serviced by this grant – Archer, Clay, Jack, Montague, Wichita, Wilbarger, Baylor and Young.

This grant is perfect for low income families, single parents, senior citizens, rural community residents, first time pet owners, and of course, large breed/bully breed dog owners. Pet overpopulation is still a problem, and this is ideal to help cut down on unwanted pet pregnancies.

If you’re interested in the grant, call 940-723-7387 for more information, and ask for the HSWC grant.

If you’re looking to adopt, check out the Humane Society web site.
