Last December, while shopping at Sikes Senter Mall with my wife, I, along with several dozen other shoppers, had the pleasure of being entertained by a choir.  But they were not just any choir.  These men and women were all former students of Mr. Don Cowan.  The Don Cowan Legacy Choir was made up of former students of Mr. Cowan, reaching back to 1961.  It was in that year that Rider High School opened its doors and Don Cowan was served as the schools very first A Cappella choir instructor.

Cowan remained at Rider for his entire teaching career, from 1961-1993.  Don Cowan passed away on Monday after a lengthy battle with cancer.  He was 85 years old.  His services are pending with Owens and Brumley Funeral Home.  Below is a video of the choir performance that Cowan and his former students gave that evening at Sikes.  It's clear from the way he talks about his time at Rider and the kids he taught, this man truly loved every moment of what would become a legendary career.  Not too many can boast of that.  Heaven is certainly enjoying quite a concert.
