In the past couple of weeks, the story of Dave Thomas and his dog has been in the news. What seemed to be a feel-good story has turned ugly after the man was reunited with his dog. Now he’s threatening to sue the woman who snapped the first photo that started the online donations pouring in.

Thomas was arrested after failing to appear in court, and that landed his dog in the shelter. When he tried to get the dog out, he was told he would need to pay over $400 in shelter fees since the dog was considered a stray. With only $6 in his pocket, he was unable to pay the fines. That’s when Maria Sanchez witnessed Thomas sitting next to the dog’s kennel at the shelter, crying. She took a photo, posted it to her Facebook, and donations started pouring in.

Even though Thomas was thrilled to be back together with his canine friend, the matter of the extra money has come into question. Sanchez wants to see that money spent responsibly and says this:

I had a discussion regarding the remainder of the donations and how he would like to spend them. I said it would be a good idea to pay off any outstanding tickets so that he will not be taken to jail in the future for having a warrant for unpaid traffic tickets. I asked if he had any bills that were due at the time. I told him that every dime that was donated would go to him and Buzz, but that I would not be giving him the cash.

Apparently Thomas didn’t like that idea, leaving this voice mail message for Sanchez:

You are dead wrong and I will be getting in touch with the lawyer and if you do anything with my money that is slander one, embezzlement two... what's the other one? Oh grand larceny because it's over $1,000.

Sanchez is fed up with the entire thing, responding:

The donations will NOT go to Dave after the stunt he has pulled. If you still want Dave to have your donation, I will have to ask you to send it to him personally... No good deed goes unpunished, right?
