Meet Wichita Falls’ Kidd’s Kid, Ryan Walker [VIDEO, PHOTOS]
This year, Ryan Walker and his family, some of Wichita Falls' own, are off to Disney World as a part of Kidd Kraddick in the Morning's annual Kidd's Kids charity trip to the Magic Kingdom. For over 15 years , the Kidd's Kids Foundation has provided trips to Orlando Florida for chronically and terminally ill children and their families. This is the first time a family from the Texoma region has been selected.
Shannon Murphy (Psycho Shannon) from the Kidd Kraddick in the Morning show made the trip to help 929 NIN surprise Ryan and his family and let them know that they were selected to go on the 2011 trip in November. Needless, to say, it was a very emotional experience.
Ryan has lived in Holliday, TX his entire life. Mom Jessica, and Dad Daniel love him to death, but it is not a lack of love that has made Ryan's life a difficult one. Ryan has suffered from severe epilepsy since he was born. It is so bad, in fact, the during his life he has sometimes suffered more than 15 seizures in a single day. The seizures come on with no warnings and leave him incapacitated. It's so bad that he could not be alone at any time forcing his mother to have to quit her job and care for him full time. To make matters worse, other kids just don't understand. Ryan has continually been bullied and picked on by the other kids at his school, and, at the height of the seizure problems, was forced to wear a helmet at all times after one seizure left him with a deep gash on his head. The school he goes to also does not know how to handle the seizures. So, what do they do? Call his mother who says, "I have set the World Record for getting to that school".
However, after all he has been through, you would never know it when you meet Ryan. The sixth grader meets everyone with a huge smile and an openness that is rare for someone that young. Maybe it's because of a life spent in and out of hospitals. Maybe it's the product of a tight family, or, maybe it's just Ryan. I'm betting on the latter. I'm proud and fortunate to know Ryan Walker.
Watch the video below when we surprise Ryan with the Kidd's Kids trip. You will be better for it.
Congratulations Walkers, you definitely deserve it, from the entire staff of Kidd Kraddick in the Morning, and 929 NIN!
