Walle, a four-year-old Beagle, Boxer, and Bassett mix, has been crowned the winner of the 2013 World’s Ugliest Dog Contest. Judges based the win on his slightly oversized head and hump back, with the reporter in this video saying one judge made the comment that Walle “looked like he was photoshopped from other dogs.”

As a last-minute entry, his win has come as a surprise to many because he’s actually pretty cute. Searches for news on the contest bring up headlines such as “Upset at World’s Ugliest Dog,” “The ‘World’s Ugliest Dog’ Has an Adorable Problem,” and “World’s Ugliest Dog actually has ‘nice face.’”

Comments on YouTube also show the win being questioned, with comments like, “He’s adorable! What are you talking about?,” “Funny shape…yes. Ugly….no!,” and “He is adorable. SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THE STUPID JUDGES.”

Walle beat out 29 other contestants, and his win comes with a $1,500 cash prize, a trophy, and a meal prepared by a top chef. Tammie Barbee, Walle’s owner, says the money will be spent on a trip to New York.

What do you think about Walle? Is he too cute to be the winner of the World’s Ugliest Dog Contest?
