NASA's latest innovation, the Low-Density Supersonic Decelerator, took a test flight in Hawaii in June, and the entire event was captured in HD video! In a video released by NASA today, Ian Clark, principal investigator of the project explains the goals for the flying saucer shaped craft. The LDSD is being designed to be the next generation spacecraft for missions to Mars.

In the test flight, all of the goals were met for the craft, even though the parachute didn't fully open. NASA scientist say they have plans to deal with that, though.
