With much of the country in the middle of a nasty heat wave, the air-conditioned comfort of a cineplex might be just what you need — and the two flicks opening in wide release this weekend will keep both adults and kids happy.

‘Total Recall,’ loosely based on the 1990 sci-fi film of the same name, sees the nation states of Euromerica and New Shanghai vie for supremacy while a factory worker begins to suspect that he’s a spy. Since he doesn’t know which side he’s fighting for, the fate of his world hangs in the balance as he discovers his true identity, his true love, and his true fate.

And in ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days,’ Greg Heffley, the hero of the phenomenally successful ‘Wimpy Kid’ book series, pretends to have a summer job at a ritzy country club — which results in embarrassing mishaps at a public pool and a camping trip that goes horribly wrong.

Here’s a sneak peek.
