Oscar Nominee Amy Adams is Lois Lane
Another role in the Zack Snyder reboot of "Superman" has been filled. Fresh off her Oscar nomination for "The Fighter", 36-year-old Amy Adams has been given the role of Lois Lane. Adams received a phone call from Zack Snyder on Sunday while Snyder was in Paris promoting "Sucker Punch". Synder met with many actresses for the role of Lois Lane, but was convinced Adams was the right fit.
“There was a big, giant search for Lois,” Snyder said. “For us it was a big thing and obviously a really important role. We did a lot of auditioning but we had this meeting with Amy Adams and after that I just felt she was perfect for it.”
At this time, there's very little news as to what role Lois Lane will play in the overall story. There have even been rumors that Lois Lane will not even be the lead female character in the film, instead that honor would go to the Kryptonian character Ursa, General Zod's second-in-command. Zack Snyder is still very tight lipped about how the character of Lois Lane will be approached.
“It goes back to what I’ve said about Superman and making him really understandable for today. What’s important to us is making him relevant and real and making him empathetic to today’s audience so that we understand the decisions he makes. That applies to Lois as well. She has to be in the same universe as him [in tone and substance].”
This isn't Amy Adam's first run-in with Superman. One of her earlier acting jobs was as a kryptonite infected girl rapidly losing weight in a first season episode of "Smallville." We now have official casting of Superman, Lois Lane and the Kents, with many rumors still flying around about who will be the villian for the film (common rumors are Viggo Mortensen as General Zod and Diane Kruger as Ursa). Also no word yet if Lois Lane will be portrayed as a redhead or if Adams will go brunette for this film.
I'm rather excited to see someone of Amy Adams' acting caliber taking this role. As I've said many times before, Kate Bosworth was a terrible choice for Lois Lane in "Superman Returns". Not only was she too bland in her performance, she was too young. Hopefully they haven't gone too far in the other direction with Amy Adams being 9 years older than Henry Cavill, the new Superman.
