The parents of three children, who gave each of them Nazi names, including Adolf Hitler, have finally lost custody of all three kids.

On Thursday, a New Jersey appeals court ruled that the children, who have been in foster care, should not be returned to the couple due to evidence of domestic violence in the home. The court has returned the case to family court for further reconsideration.

The story dates back to January of 2009, when the couple’s children were removed from their home after they drew attention when a local store would not make a birthday cake for their son, Adolf Hitler.

A spokesperson from the store said it was the third time the family had tried to get the “Happy Birthday, Adolf Hitler” cake made and they didn’t refuse them, but offered to make it without the name. The boy’s father declined the compromise.

Heath and Deborah Campbell, whose other children are named JoyceLynn Aryan Nation and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie, did acknowledge the hate behind their children’s names at the time, but claimed that wasn’t their intention.

The Campbells believe they have the right to give their children any names they please, and say the names have no affect on who the kids are as people. Adolf’s mother says he’s just like any other little boy. “It’s not like he’s growing up to be a killer or nothing like that,” said Campbell. The children’s father agreed saying, “a person makes a person… a name doesn’t.”

At this point, there is a gag order in place on the case and, while the Campbells have broken that order to speak with the media, other parties refuse to publicly discuss the decision.
