Robin Thicke is no stranger to baring his emotions and laying them all out on the table, especially when it comes to winning back his estranged wife, Paula Patton. But in the music video for his new single, ‘Get Her Back,’ the ‘Blurred Lines’ singer opens up more than ever.
The emotionally-charged vid features a sullen Thicke singing directly to the camera, his face slightly bloody as a Paula Patton lookalike fades in and out of the video. But perhaps the most telling — and maybe the most jarring — part of the vid is the candid text messages between Thicke and the subject of the song, which are featured front and center.
“You drink too much,” reads an incoming text. “You embarrassed me,” reads another. And as for the texts from Thicke? “I wrote a whole album about you,” one reads. (‘Get Her Back’ is featured on his upcoming album, ‘Paula.’) But the response is not what he was hoping for. “I don’t care,” the woman replies.
Whether or not the messages were an actual exchange between Thicke and Patton, the singer makes no attempt to hide the fact that the song, the video, and most of all, his upcoming record, are plainly about his estranged wife. And this is not the last we’ve heard on the subject, seeing as Thicke closes the video with one last message: “This is only the beginning…”
