According to Rose McGowan, it's "time for some godd---ed honesty in this world."

In the wake of the Twitter hashtag #WhyWomenDontReport, which surfaced following a recent string of new sexual assault accusations being made against Donald Trump, McGowan has stepped forward to share her own experience with sexual assault, revealing that a powerful "studio head" in Hollywood raped her.

"A (female) criminal attorney said because I'd done a sex scene in a film I would never win against the studio head #WhyWomenDontReport…because it's been an open secret in Hollywood/Media & they shamed me while adulating my rapist," the actress tweeted.

"Because my ex sold our movie to my rapist for distribution," the Dawn director added.

McGowan also tweeted to her friend, film producer Cassian Elwes, who acted as her ally.

"When no one else in Hollywood would listen, you heard. When no one else in Hollywood would do, you acted," she posted.

McGowan also shared her support for her friend Amber Tamblyn, a fellow actress who has been open about her own experience with sexual assault and who penned a heartbreaking article for Glamour magazine about the misogyny running rampant in our society, a piece which McGowan commended as "brilliant writing."

"If you're a woman in America there's a 10 in 10 chance you've experienced [misogyny]," Tamblyn writes in her essay. "Whether you recognize it or not, whether you're ready to admit it or not. It's a culture that talks down to you."

"[Misogyny] thrives in our country on a cellular level, right in front of our faces," she continues. "It exists like goose bumps exist, like premonitions are felt, like earthquakes are predicted."
