Wichita Falls Police Department Public Information Officer Jeff Hughes says that recently, the WFPD has seen an increase in "Mystery Shopper" scams where victims are losing large amounts of money.

The victims are receiving large "Mystery Shopper" checks (usually over $1000) in the mail and cashing them only to be told later by their banks that the checks were no good and they have to pay the money back. For the most part, legitimate "Mystery Shopper" programs through the mail do not exist.

If you receive a "Mystery Shopper" check in the mail, Officer Hughes urges you not to cash these checks or you will be out the money in the long run, and could even be charged with criminal activity.
