Slow Mo Guys Get More Than Expected with Exploding Melon [VIDEO]

Gavin Free and Dan Gruschy wanted to make a video about the importance of safety goggles. The Slow Mo Guys are aware that sometimes ideas don’t work out the way they hoped, so that’s when improvisation comes into the picture. Their first attempt was to shoot BBs at some pig eyes that were placed in a melon, but when their idea proved to be less than they hoped for, they tried something else.

Using a “banger,” or firecracker, they lit the weapon and waited to see what would happen. The result is a stunning explosion at 2,500 frames per second. The melon came apart at such a high rate of speed that it cut Gruschy’s face, stunning him in the process.

I wouldn’t have sat next to the melon while this was happening, but I’ll watch it over and over.
