Here's something you don't see every day.

On Tuesday (Sept 12), a Texas Highway Patrol trooper conducted what he thought was just another traffic stop near Weslaco in Hidalgo County.

At around 1pm, the trooper pulled over 22-year-old Jonathan Guzman of Edinburg in his 2017 Dodge Caravan for a traffic violation. Guzman was traveling northbound on U.S. 281 north of FM 1017.

While conducting the traffic stop, the trooper noticed one person concealed on the floor with various items covering him. He also discovered another individual concealed in a factory storage compartment behind the driver seat in the floorboard.

Guzman was arrested and charged with smuggling of persons, a second degree felony. He was transported to the Hidalgo County jail.

As for the two gentlemen he was attempting to smuggle, they were turned over to U.S. Border Patrol.

Weslaco is a quiet community in South Texas, located directly across the border from the Mexican city Nuevo Progreso and only has a population of about 40,000 at the most.
