Texas Governor and Wichita Falls native Greg Abbott arrived in the city on Monday to get a first-hand look at the damage from last week’s flooding.  Gov. Abbott declared Wichita Falls a disaster area.  That declaration opens the door to assets provided to the state from the federal government to assist with disaster recovery.

Abbott warned citizens that the worst may not be over.  With more rains forecast more flooding could well occur.  Officials say it could take a week or possibly more for the level of the Big Wichita River to return to normal, but it all depends on how much more rain the area receives.  Some officials and citizens have questioned the state’s ability to respond with widespread floods across much of Texas, but Gov. Abbott said that state agencies were more than adequately prepared to step up and help.
