Texas teenager Jose Reyes went on trial this week for the brutal murder of a 15-year-old girl earlier this year, which he reportedly committed to offer his soul to Satan.

The details of the slaying of Corriann Cervantes were so graphic and intense that members of the jury openly wept during the District Attorney's opening statements.  According to Assistant Harris County District Attorney John Jordan, Reyes and his accomplice Victor Alas engaged in consensual sex with Cervantes, then attacked her in the hopes of selling their souls to Satan.  Reyes and Alas allegedly gouged out one of Cervantes' eyes with a plastic rod, stabbed her repeatedly in the face and abdomen with a screwdriver, and smashed her head and face with the porcelain lid to a toilet.  Authorities say Cervantes screamed, "Why are you doing this to me?" while being tortured in a vacant Houston apartment.  Cervantes body was found in the vacant apartment four days later.  According to District Attorney Jordan, Reyes said he had no regrets, adding,

Whether or not the devil was involved, what happened in that apartment was sadistic and inhumane.

Reyes will be tried separately from Alas, who choked Cervantes with a belt.  Reyes, now 18-years-old, will be tried as an adult and face a life sentence, but if convicted he will be eligible for parole in 40 years as the crime was committed while he was a minor.
