As it turns out, the truth is still out there: Following 2016's six-episode revival of The X-Files, Fox has announced new episodes of the cult classic sci-fi-series to air during the 2017-2018 television season.

Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny will reprise their iconic roles as conspiracy investigators Dana Scully and Fox Mulder in a new 10-episode installment, production for which begins over the summer.

The new revival will be executive produced by the show's creator Chris Carter, who launched The X-Files in 1993. The show lasted for nine seasons before concluding in 2001.

In a statement announcing the forthcoming television event, Fox Broadcasting president David Madden gushed, "Chris’ creativity, along with the brilliant work of David and Gillian, continue to propel this pop culture phenomenon, and we can’t wait to see what fresh mysteries Mulder and Scully uncover in this next chapter of The X-Files."
