A damaged sign will be replaced on Southbound US 287 Friday.  The work will take place over the freeway on US 287 between Galveston and Old Jacksboro Highway. The large green sign directs motorists for the 287/281 split. The sign was damaged by over height trucks.

The last new sign will have to be hoisted into place with cranes. So traffic will be reduced to one lane for safety.   Southbound US 287 will go down to one lane at the south side of the Elevated Freeway. Meanwhile the US 82 East to US 287 South Falls Flyover interchange ramp will be closed. Two entrance ramps for US 82 Eastbound at Brook St and the Southbound US 287 at Galveston will be closed.

The work will begin at 9 am and last until approximately 4 pm. While detours will be in place, local drivers are urged to avoid the area if possible.  This job is dependent on good weather and will be rescheduled if poor conditions move into Wichita Falls.
