President Obama -- wedding crasher?

The president surprised people earlier this month when he showed up at a wedding in San Diego that took place on a golf course.

Stephanie Mirkin and Brian Tobe were getting set to the knot near the 18th hole at Torrey Pines Golf Course just as the president was finishing up the hole and concluding a round on the links.

Obama decided to make the couple's day by approaching them and saying hello. Realizing this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, Mirkin raced out of a private suite where she was holed up and onto the course in her gown to say hello (and ignored the old tradition about not seeing the groom before the ceremony):

Once I heard that that there might be an opportunity to even just say hi, shake his hand or even try to take a picture, we darted. We ran to the closest elevator, got downstairs and I picked up my huge dress and I just started running across the lawn to get over to the president.”

Obama took a photo with the couple and hung around to shake hands with all 60 people at the ceremony. The photographers who shot the wedding posted a picture on Instagram, which should probably help word of mouth:

The couple even asked the president to stay, but the Secret Service told him he had other obligations, like, you know, running the country.
