Early Friday morning  a bomb threat was received at the Wichita County Courthouse.  A male caller called from a local pay phone just after 8:00 am and told sheriff's office officials that there were two bombs inside the courthouse.  The courthouse was evacuated.  Deputy Melvin Joyner with the Wichita County Sheriff's Office Community Services Unit issued the following press release:

At approximately 8:14 am...the Wichita County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a telephone call from a male who stated that there were two bombs placed in the Wichita County Courthouse.  The telephone call was traced to a coin-operated telephone located at a local convenience store.  The Courthouse was evacuated and the Wichita Falls Fire Department responded.  The building was searched at which time no devices were located.  The Wichita County Downton Detention Center was not affected by the threat.  The Courthouse was re-opened at 10:15.  The offense is under investigation by the Wichita County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division.
