A 25-year-old Wichita Falls mother is being held on a $1,000,000 bond on five charges of child abuse from the April 2011 death of her 1-year-old child.

April Starr Alexander was arrested and booked yesterday afternoon and arraigned this morning on five counts of child abuse.  Wichita County Magistrate Judge Michael Little set the bond for the first charge, "injury to a child-serious bodily injury/death" at $600,000, with each of the four remaining charges of "injury to a child - serious bodily injury" set at $100,000 each.

On April 5th, 2011, Alexander's 1-year-old son Harley Rain Alexander was admitted to Cook Children's Medical Center with head trauma.  The police were notified and interviewed Alexander about her son's injuries.  According to affidavits, Alexander gave suspiciously different accounts of the events leading up to the child's injury, unable to give a viable reason for the injury.  Harley died two days later.

The "injury to a child-serious bodily injury/death" charge is from the head injury Harley was admitted for, which is believed to be the cause of death.  The four other charges came about after the autopsy where the examiner found several other injuries suggesting Harley was abused prior to the fatal injury.
