The Oakland Raiders want a new stadium, and they might move to San Antonio to get it.

The Raiders currently play their home games at O.co Coliseum in Oakland which is also home to Major League Baseball's Oakland Athletics. The stadium was built in 1966 and is need of renovations. Current Raiders owner Mark Davis, son of the late Al Davis, is ready to move away from Oakland if a new stadium is not built. Negotiations are tricky though, as the Athletics are committed to staying in the current stadium, as is.

Things have gotten interesting over the last few weeks as it has been reported that Davis has met with many San Antonio city officials including Henry Cisneros, and then-Mayor Julián Castro, among others. San Antonio has long been a bargaining chip for pro sports franchises who have been leveraging for new facilities. Most recently in 2006, the then Florida Marlins threatened to relocate to southern Texas before ultimately staying in Florida with a new stadium in Miami. Being the 37th largest market in the US, San Antonio has always struggled in luring teams to its city limits.

With the Raiders' stadium lease expiring after the 2014-15 season, the team will have to make a decision fairly quickly. Current options include staying at O.co Coliseum, sharing the 49ers' new Levi's Stadium, or relocating. Sources close to Mark Davis have indicated that he is not a fan of staying in Oakland or sharing with San Francisco. Reports also indicate that San Antonio's Alamodome could be ready to host NFL games as early as the 2015-16 season, but only as a temporary facility.

For a NFL franchise to relocate, the team would have to have 24 out of 32 NFL owners vote in favor of the move. Two of those owners currently reside in Texas - Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys and Bob McNair of the Houston Texans. It can be assumed that these two owners would not be on board with the decision, as it could take away fans that currently side with their teams. Also, the NBA's Spurs could be seen as an opponent to the move as well, as the basketball team currently represents the only pro sports team in the city.
