10 Years Ago, an Epic Snow Storm Slammed Southeast Minnesota
My life was a bit crazy 10 years ago. Not only did I have 3 kids at home, was helping run a nonprofit called Teen MOPS in Rochester, Minnesota, but I also did daycare and I taught fitness classes at two gyms. My days started at 4:00 am and honestly, remembering all of that is exhausting. Life was moving in a million directions and a lot of it is a blur now but there was one very specific day that I will never forget, and that was May 2nd, 2013.
Do You Remember The Epic Snow Storm That Hit Southeast Minnesota on May 2nd, 2013?
I never thought in a million years that my kids would have a snow day on May 2nd. NEVER. But, the call came and since I was one of the few individuals actually out driving that morning, I understood why.
According to weather.gov, a record-breaking snowstorm hit Southeast Minnesota and basically just dumped a massive amount of really wet snow. Dodge Center got pounded with the most snow at 15.4 inches and Rochester came in second with 14 inches.
I was one of a few people actually driving around in the morning and to say everything was a mess is an understatement. At WOW (which is now where Northgate is located), I watched a car attempt to get out of the parking lot as its bumper was ripped off. This wasn't an accident with another car. This was just from attempting to move from the spot where the car was parked! The snow came down so fast and was so heavy, it basically surrounded this low car and as soon as they started to move, the bumper came off.
