Being Bad Boys for life might not be that long if everyone is trying to kill them.

In the new trailer for Bad Boys For Life, Martin Lawrence’s Marcus Burnett wants to retire from police work, but he can’t let his bad boy brethren, Will Smith’s Detective Mike Lowrey, handle his latest suicide mission alone. So it’s time for Mike and Marcus to team up one last time. Supposedly. You know how these franchises go. The end is never really the end.

Here’s the new trailer for the film:

And here’s the film’s official synopsis:

The Bad Boys Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) are back together for one last ride in the highly anticipated Bad Boys for Life. Directed by: Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah.

Interestingly, the plot of the movie looks very similar to Smith’s recent action film Gemini Man, where he confronted his mortality by facing off with a clone of his younger self. In Bad Boys For Life, Smith’s character refuses to retire, says he’ll keep chasing bad guys until the day he dies, and winds up working with a team of younger cops. Clearly, someone in Will Smith’s life is trying to convince him he needs to give up action movies — or at least Smith himself is starting to wonder whether he should. Subtext! Bad Boys For Life opens in theaters on January 17.
