Can Guys Share Popcorn At The Movies?

I went to the movies this week to see Snow White And The Huntsman (which was a good movie except for the horrible acting by Kristen Stewart) with a few friends from work. One of those friends is my boss, and he got a big bucket of popcorn, a hot dog, and a soda. I got a hot dog, drink, and candy. During the movie I realized I wanted some popcorn, so I asked if I could have some from him and he got all weirded out- like that by sharing he would get cooties from me or something. He said I should have bought my own. What!? Crazy part is that he didn't even finish eating the whole bucket. Is that how everybody is and I am just a moocher, or do you share a bucket with your same gender friends at the theater?
