Child Treated After Gun Goes Off Outside Daycare in Wichita Falls
Early Monday morning detectives from the Juvenile Unit were dispatched to United Regional Health Care 11th Street Emergency Room after a child with an injury from a gunshot was brought in for treatment.
According to the Wichita Falls Police Department, a parent was dropping a child off at the daycare at 4725 Kmart. A 4 year-old child was left unattended in the vehicle. The child removed a handgun that was left under the front driver’s seat of the vehicle. The weapon had a round in the chamber and the child was able to accidentally fire the weapon. The round left the vehicle and struck the daycare building.
The 4 year old was hit in the head by the recoil of the handgun causing an open wound to his left forehead. The wound is non-life threatening but did require medical treatment. No other injuries reported. The incident is being investigated as endangering a child.
