Demi Lovato, no stranger to battles with her body and her mind, has spoken out about the tragic death of 'Glee' star Cory Monteith, who died a week ago after overdosing on a lethal cocktail of drugs and alcohol. Lovato, who has dealt with very public emotional and physical issues, offered some pointed commentary about Monteith's passing.

Lovato, who revealed that she was plied with drugs and alcohol at a young age due to her celebrity status, suggested that even the smallest slip can lead to death, as it did with Monteith, since addiction is such a debilitating disease.

"All it takes is one moment of vulnerability to get slipped into your addiction," Lovato said. "It's not a choice. Nobody chooses to use. He didn't choose to die. It was the disease. It can creep up on you at any moment. It only takes one moment of relapse to potentially die."

Some people may take issue with the idea of "choosing" to use or not, but Lovato's intentions with her comments are clearly good.

The singer also stated that she is praying for Lea Michele, Monteith's co-star and girlfriend. "I am praying for her so hard and I love her so much. I'm wishing her a lot of strength right now," Lovato said.

While Lovato reflected on the sadness of the loss, she did say that she hopes people learn about the consequences of using and abusing and that addiction shouldn't be stigmatized, saying, "It's really scary, but I'm really hoping that from this, people are able to see this is a very, very, very dangerous disease."

Lovato even said that she has to avoid club settings and scenarios because it can set off triggers and lead to a relapse and derail her own rehab.

Lovato's comments certainly offer some perspective on someone currently dealing with similar problems.
