Last month, Michelle Duggar from TLC's "19 Kids and Counting" announced that she and her husband Jim Bob where expecting their 20th child.  The Duggars experienced some difficulties with child #19 being premature, but they were optimistic that there would not be a repeat of those problems.  Unfortunately, it was worse than last time.

In a statement issued earlier this morning, Jim Bob confirmed that he and Michelle had been told by doctors Thursday morning that Michelle had suffered a miscarriage.  During a routine check up where the Duggars were to learn the sex of the baby, doctors were unable to detect the baby's heartbeat.  According to the statement, Michelle is resting at home and the family is asking for privacy during this matter.  Of the miscarriage, Michelle said,

"I feel like my heart broke telling my children.  They have all been so excited about this baby and looking forward to April coming around and having a new little one in our arms. That was the most difficult. The Lord is the giver of life and he can choose when that life is ready to go on and be with Him."

When the Duggar family made their pregnancy announcement last month, Michelle said that she was already safely through her first trimester.  This is the second miscarriage for the Duggars, having lost their second pregnancy while Michelle was on oral birth control.  This first miscarriage was what convinced the Duggars to let God determine how many children they would have.

I may be one of many people who take a shot or two at the Duggars having enough children to fill a Football team, but as a parent, this is something I would never wish on anyone.
