For many, the Muppets were a thing of the past until the 2011 hit film that rejuvenated the franchise.  And like any hit film, a sequel was certain to happen, and today we have our first full trailer for Muppets Most Wanted.

Since the events of the last film, the Muppets have gone on a world tour.  While on the European portion of the tour, Kermit unwillingly switches places with Constantine, the world’s greatest thief who looks exactly like Kermit except for a mole on his face.  Now Kermit must contend with proving his identity while Constantine and his criminal partner Dominic, played by Ricky Gervais, are trying to maintain their cover within the Muppets as Kermit and the Muppets’ new manager, respectively.  The human cast includes Ty Burrell as Interpol Inspector Jean Pierre Napoleon and Tina Fey Russian GULAG officer Nadya.

I grew up watching the Muppets, and I loved the last film.  It was a love letter to those of us with fond memories of Kermit and his group, so hearing that Jason Segal wasn’t going to return as the writer or star was a little unnerving.  It was his love for the Muppets that added to the charm of the film, but from this trailer it doesn’t look like the Muppets haven’t missed the mark too much.  Like the last film, this one will be full of cameos.  From the trailer alone we see Salma Hayek, WWE Superstar Hornswaggle, Celine Dion, Tom Hiddleston, Stanley Tucci, Zach Galifianakis, Christoph Waltz, Sean Combs, Ray Liotta, and Danny Trejo.  From what I’ve seen this looks like it will be funny, but I’m still hesitant with them getting away from Jason Segal, the guy responsible for the great tone and feel of the first film.
