In the 1990s, "Saturday Night Live" had some serious competition for the fist time in many years.  Headed by Keenan Ivory Wayans and starring several members of his family, "In Living Color" was considered ground-breaking for a sketch comedy show by having a primarily black cast of comedians.  The show was amazingly successful for its first three seasons until several cast members, including Keenan, left the show.  The show ended its run in 1994, and nearly 20 years later Fox is bringing back the show next year, but not in a way fans had hoped.

The original "In Living Color" was a starting point for people like Oscar winner Jamie Foxx, Jim Carrey, Damon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Marlon Wayans, Jennifer Lopez, and "Dancing With The Stars" judge Carrie Ann Inaba (the latter two being part of "The Fly Girls").  Many hoped that the return of the show would mean regular appearances by the well-known alumni.  However, according to Fox, Keenan Ivory Wayans will return to host the episodes, but it will center around a fresh, new cast.  No only that, Fox is not giving the show a full return to their schedule, but 2 half-hour specials.  No word if any of the original cast members will make a special appearance, but given the new cast and limited time, it is highly doubtful.  The original run of the series spawned classic character that are still quoted to this day, including Fire Marshal Bill, Wanda the ugly woman, Homey The Clown, and Men on Film.  Again going back to the new cast and limited time, there's almost no way a new breakout character will debut.

The exact air dates for the two specials has not yet been released.
