The final midnight premiere for Harry Potter is in the books, and chalk up another victory in the battle of Potter vs. Twilight.

Once upon a time, "Twilight Saga: Eclipse" had the record for the highest grossing midnight premiere with a $30 million midnight opening, beating the record set by its predecessor "New Moon" ($26.4 million).  Now the record belongs to "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2", beating "Eclipse" by almost 50%, bringing in $43.5 during its midnight premiere.

With a victory against the sparkling vampires, Potters next opponent is the Dark Knight himself.  "The Dark Knight" was once the record holder for the highest grossing midnight premiere with $18.5, but still holds the record for the highest grossing opening weekend, an amazing $158.4 million.  Though "New Moon" and "Eclipse" both beat the midnight openings "The Dark Knight", the box office numbers dropped enough over their first weekends to keep Batman in the top stop.  However, if the box office for Harry Potter keeps up its pace, we might have a new record holder coming up Monday morning.
