A high school football referee in Texas is under intense scrutiny after a shocking incident that unfolded during a recent game.

The video at the bottom of this article took place Friday night in a high school football game at Dallas Madison.

We don't know what happened prior to the snap, but I don't think that matters in this case.

The Incident

The ball is snapped and #28, who appears to be playing linebacker, takes a few steps back toward where the ref is. Instead of moving out of his way, the referee puts his hands up to keep the young man from running into him.

The quarterback on the opposite team starts running to his right, which makes #28 go a few steps with him. The quarterback then takes off running in the opposite direction, so #28 hits the brakes and changes direction, as he should, and this causes him to run into the ref again.

The ref then proceeds to rip the helmet right off the kid's head, fairly violently. #28 almost goes to the ground, but he recovers his footing and immediately throws his hands up and points at the referee, who then pulls out the yellow flag to call a penalty.

From my point of view, the referee was totally in the wrong here.

Comments

From most of the comments under the video, the parents claim that #28 is a very nice respectful kid.  The UIL is currently investigating the situation.
