Oklahoma Family in Shock After Mother Accidentally Cremated
Imagine thinking you're going to see your dead relative at a funeral home for a viewing and they hand you some ashes.
If I can stress anything in life to people is that you sit down and pre-plan your funeral. Whatever type of service you want done, take care of that before your passing. Do not put the stress of that situation on your loved ones. It looks like that is EXACTLY what Carolyn Comer did. Unfortunately someone along the way messed up her final wishes.
Carolyn Comer passed away on August 16, 2025. Her two children Ricky and Sharon are still trying to process how her mother's remains were cremated. According to John M. Ireland & Son Funeral Home and Chapel in Moore, Carolyn had prepaid for her funeral and burial. The problem with this funeral home is that the embalming process is done by another company called Alpha and Omega. Obviously before a funeral, that embalming process has to take place. Alpha and Omega also do cremations and for some reason they cremated Carolyn Comer instead.
Comer Family Claims Her Mother Was Terrified of Being Cremated
The Comer kids spoke to News9 and they said they can't think of anything worse than their mother being cremated. “She was more afraid of being cremated than anything else,” Sharon said. “She would bawl, cry, and beg us not to do that to her.” According to John Ireland the owner of the funeral home, “They have a real strict protocol before anyone is cremated,” he said. “Something didn’t happen right.”
Family Has Been Fully Compensated for Funeral Expenses
The family has had all the money their mother paid for the funeral refunded in full, along with some additional expenses refunded as well. The family is considering legal action in the hopes this never happens to someone else ever again.
My Theory as to What Happened?
According to News9, Carolyn was going to be buried with the ashes of her two dogs. I think somewhere along the way those ashes made it into the paperwork and someone assumed ashes meant cremation for Carolyn. John Ireland says they have been in business for over thirty years and nothing like this has ever happened with their third party embalming service.
