Wichita Falls First Grader Helps Save Classmate During Health Scare
Thanks to a quick thinking six-year-old, a Wichita Falls first grader was able to get some help during an allergic reaction.
Crockett Elementary First Grader Helps Save Classmate
Many of us would not think of a day in first grade as a high stress situation. Looks like earlier this week at Crockett Elementary, in Robert Maxwell's first grade class. One of his students was having an allergic reaction. Apparently this student had just taken some medication and they were having some side effects to it. Thankfully a classmate named Alyssandra Oviedo noticed the other student turned red.
Maxwell Talks About Alyssandra Speaking Up
Alyssandra Oviedo quickly got her teacher's attention saying that something was wrong with the student. Mr. Maxwell told KFDX what happened during the situation. “We turned the lights on, and sure enough, she was beginning to have an allergic reaction to some medication she had taken just minutes before,” Maxwell said. “I was writing the nurse’s note, and I could see it spreading. As I was talking to her about it, which signs did she feel she eventually started to feel the itching from it. I could see it going across her chest.”
Alyssandra is Being Praised for Quick Thinking
Since Alyssandra was so quick in alerting her teacher. This prevented the rash from spreading further and causing more pain for her classmate. The Thomas Fowler American Legion Post 169 gave Alyssandra a medal this week for helping her classmate. The WFISD plans on honoring Alyssandra at their next school board meeting on Monday, April 14th.
Shout out to Alyssandra for noticing something wrong and speaking up on it. Crazy that a six-year-old was able to notice and get her teacher's attention during that scary situation.
