When it comes to Dallas Cowboys traditions many of them are because of legendary coach Tom Landry or the former general manager Tex Schramm. Back in 1976, it was the bicentennial for America and Tex decided the Dallas Cowboys were going to celebrate with a uniform change the entire season. This was before they were known as America's Team, but they would eliminate a blue stripe on their helmet to make it red.

That season the Dallas Cowboys would have a very respectable record of 11-3 in the regular season, but would sadly get knocked out in their first playoff game that year. Losing to the Los Angles Rams 14-12 at the old Texas Stadium. After that game, we would not see the red helmets for decades.

In a decision out of nowhere, the Dallas Cowboys announced they were bringing back their red stripes during their Salute to Service weekend. All NFL teams do this sometime between week 9 or 11 in the NFL. Typically teams do it the closest home game before Veterans Day. The red stripe comeback was the worst regular season game for the Dallas Cowboys that season. They would not lose another regular season game by more than ten points the rest of the year. Many thought these helmets were done after that.

Well to anybody that thought this helmet was 'cursed'. The Cowboys proved them wrong the following season absolutely dominating the Colts by FIVE touchdowns. At this point, we now know the Dallas Cowboys red stripe will be an annual tradition for the team.

Back in 2021, the helmets were considered bad luck. After this divisional game people wanted them to wear them more. Back to back years of winning by over thirty points. Red stripe was now in the good luck category...for now.

If we completely eliminate the 1976 season. The Cowboys are currently 2-2 since the tradition has comeback. What we have seen is this game has been a blow out every time they're worn though. Cowboys have Monday Night Football this week against the Arizona Cardinals. We will see how the red stripe does in just a few days.
