Derek Chauvin Prison Sentence
Derek Chauvin was found guilty in 2021 on a second-degree murder charge for George Floyd back on June 25, 2021. He was sentenced to 22.5 years for this and was being held at an Arizona facility the past few years. However, Chauvin is being transferred after an incident that happened in late 2023.
Derek Chauvin Stabbed in Federal Prison
Another inmate named John Tursack is facing attempted murder charges for allegedly stabbing Chauvin 22 times while in prison. The Federal Bureau of Prisons said they could not discuss the reason for Chauvin's transfer for privacy, safety and security reasons. However, we do know where Chauvin has been transferred to.
Federal Transfer Center in Oklahoma City
The Federal Transfer Center (FTC Oklahoma City) is a United States federal prison for male and female inmates in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. It is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, a division of the United States Department of Justice, and houses offenders and parole violators who have yet to be assigned to a permanent prison facility. Most likely, Chauvin will be moved to another facility somewhere else in America, but he is currently residing here for the time being.
The average stay for an inmate at the FTC is four to six weeks. So expect for Chauvin to be moved sometime in mid to late September. It is unclear where The Federal Bureau of Prisons plans to move him next.
