A lot of talk about the future of Sikes Senter Mall this week, so I thought it would be fun to look into the past. Many say the peak of mall culture was in the 1980's-1990's, but our mall officially opened in 1974. The only mall within 100 miles of Wichita Falls in Texas when it opened that year. Let's look at some stores that take you right back to the 1970's.

Surprising, One Store from Sikes Senter Mall Still Open

When I made this list, I was surprised to see that one store is still open at the mall to this day. Spencer Gifts or as we know it today Spencer's is still operating at Sikes Senter all these years later. I had no idea they were operating in malls throughout the country since the 1960's. I have no idea if Spencer's ever closed for a period of time within the mall, but they were there on opening day.

Petition Going Viral to Save Sikes Senter Mall

This week a petition started from some of the vendors that rent space out in Sikes Senter Mall asking for a public vote on the future of the mall. A meeting is taking place August 14th for the future of Sikes Senter Mall. It is a meeting between mall owners, 4b sales tax corporation, Wichita Falls Economic Development Corporation, and the city of Wichita Falls City Council will be taking place. We will wait and see what comes out of this meeting.
