Although nothing has been set in stone yet, looks like the talks of future plans for Sikes Senter Mall have some of the current tenants upset.

Check Out the Petition for Sikes Senter Mall Below

On Friday we found out that the current tenants of Sikes Senter Mall were made aware of an upcoming meeting in August that would completely transform the current mall property. A portion of where the mall sits on currently would turn into a sports facility for Midwestern State University. Football, soccer, track and field would take over 7 acres of the current mall property.

Current Mall Tenants Have Started a Petition

Withershins Menagerie one of the local businesses inside of Sikes Senter Mall has started a petition called 'Save the Sikes'. You can click the link here if you're interested in signing the petition. Basically the petition is asking for the public to vote on the future of Sikes Senter Mall.

Intention of Petition for Sikes Senter Mall

"The proposal to purchase and demolish the Sikes Senter Mall for $28 million is a massive decision that impacts not only business owners like but the entire community. This project deserves public input, and city residents should have the right to vote on whether it's a worthwhile investment. Why can't these funds be used more effectively to renovate and redesign the space? Put in a skating rink or indoor park; an escape from the heat. Such an initiative could revitalize the mall while maintaining its contribution to the local economy and community," the petition states.

As of this posting, the petition has just under 500 signatures. Comments on the Withershins Menagerie Facebook page are mixed with some wanting to support the mall, while others say malls are dying throughout the country and it's time to let ours go as well. We will wait and see what happens at the meeting on August 14th.
