Historic Graham Drive In, Currently Filming for an Upcoming Movie
We're used to the Graham Drive In showing us movies on a lovely weekend. However, this week the drive in itself is the setting for an upcoming feature film.
With the weather getting nicer, it's the perfect time to go support your favorite drive in movie theater. One of the closest ones to us, is the Graham Drive-In. Fun fact, this is the oldest operating Texas drive in. They first started playing movies back in 1948. This piece of Texas history is getting some recognition by director Austin Noll.
About a month ago, Austin shared his story for an upcoming film he wants to work on called 'The Projectionist.' The plot of the film is about an old man operating a small town drive-in theater, this man discovers that the drive-in is his last connection to his dementia-stricken wife. As he looks back on his life's most integral moments, he finds himself face to face with a choice: to keep holding on, or finally let go.
Austin hit his crowdfunding goal to film the project and filming recently went down. Looks like that small town drive-in theater will be the Graham Drive-In that we know and love.
According to a post on Facebook, the Graham Drive-In wrapped up the scenes at their location yesterday. Judging from the photos taken on set, many classic cars were apart of the scenes. You can get a look of how the Graham Drive-In would have operated in it's heyday back in the 1950s-1960s. During this time, America had 4,000 drive ins throughout the country. Sadly, that number is only around 300 now.
If you have never been to a drive-in movie theater. I highly encourage you to visit one this spring. Most of the time you get a double feature, the prices are very reasonable for food/drinks, plus nothing beats movie under the stars. Back in the day, Wichita Falls used to be home to several drive in movie theaters, if you want more info on them. Check out more below.
