Security Officers to Wear Body Cams at Wichita Falls Schools
Some big changes for the upcoming school year in Wichita Falls.
WFISD Board Approves Body Cameras for Security Officers
Looks like at the most recent school board meeting, a grant was approved for $140,000 to outfit all security officers within the WFISD with body cameras. This is not only to protect the students, but to add another layer of safety to the staff and the officers as well. This way it's not a he said/she said scenario if something happens between an officer and a student. Audio and visual recordings can now be reviewed to see what actually happens in a situation.
Body Cameras Hoping to Be Ready for the Start of Fall 2025 School Year
The official first date of school in the WFISD is August 14, 2025 and the school board is hopeful that they will have the body cameras by then. According to KFDX, the board expects every security officer to have a body camera by September at the latest.
WFISD on Safety and Security on School Grounds
According to the WFISD website, "Through a combination of proactive patrolling, emergency response preparedness, and crime prevention initiatives, we strive to maintain a safe and secure environment. Our officers are equipped with the latest technology and undergo regular training to effectively handle any situation that may arise."
Nowadays most police officers are equipped with body cameras and the WFISD appears to be upgrading their technology to follow suit. The WFISD currently has 22 schools that fall under their jurisdiction. This includes one career education center, two early learning facilities, two high schools, three middle schools, and fourteen elementary schools. We will wait to see when the body cameras begin rolling out across the facilities.
