Demolition Work to Begin Wednesday January 8th

In a press release from the city of Wichita Falls this morning. They announced that demolition work will start on the abandoned hotel last known as Hotel at Wichita Falls. Midwest Wrecking Company of Texas based out of Bedford will be doing the work over the next several weeks to bring the building down. If the project goes as planned, the building should be gone by the end of February.

This Hotel Has Caused Headaches for Years

Back in 2015 the hotel flooded and ever since then it has sat abandoned in town. It has been broken into several times over the years and several YouTubers have documented what the inside of the hotel looks like nowadays. You can watch one of the more popular ones above.

What Does the Future Hold for this Property?

Looks like 15 acres of the property will be turned into a park according to the City of Wichita Falls. This area is actually closer to the Wichita River. The remaining property, which the hotel currently sits on, will be developed in case anyone would like to build something. You can see a photo of the land for the park below.

Looking Back at the Hotel at Wichita Falls

When the hotel originally opened, it was actually a Sheraton. Many in Wichita Falls knew as the local Holiday Inn before changing to Hotel at the Falls, then to Hotel at Wichita Falls. You can check out the video above if you never got to see the Hotel when it was actually open. Since it has been almost a decade since the flood, an entire generation of Wichita Falls kids just know this place as the abandoned building near The Falls.
