James Carroll didn’t like Michael Utz, a co-worker at the waste water plant where they were both employed. Back in 2009 Carroll decided the best way to deal with the situation was to pee in Utz’ coffee, a move that will now cost him $5,001.

The whole thing went down in 2009, when Carroll got water out of a toilet that had been peed in. Lucky for Utz, he noticed that something wasn’t quite right before drinking anything, and had the water tested. What he discovered was both urine and fecal matter in the water.

The Huffington Post reports that Carroll made a statement saying:

I done something I am very much ashamed of to a co-worker for [reasons, which are] stress-related [and] things going on in my life on and off the job. I am very much ashamed of my stupid and childlike behavior.

Even though Utz never actually drank the tainted water, he still sued for damages in the amount of $728,000. The jury didn’t agree with that number and he was instead awarded the significantly lower number of $5,001.

Given that Utz never drank the pee, do you think he was justified in asking for so much?
