Mariah Carey caused television viewers' jaws to drop faster than the Times Square Ball tonight (December 31) after experiencing a major performance malfunction.

Thankfully, it was not wardrobe related: Carey suffered an audio issue in which she, for some reason, failed to lip-sync along with her backing track while performing as the headliner of Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve on ABC.

After getting off to a rocky start, instead of catching up with the track's backing vocals, the music icon seemed to prowl the stage aimlessly, commanding the crowd to sing her lines for her.

"We're missing some of these vocals, but it is what it is," she mumbled into her microphone at one point.

Carey wrapped up the performance with a bizarre kiss-off, before seemingly storming off the stage in disgust.

"It just don't get any better," she told the crowd, turning away and throwing her arms up.

Following the performance, Mariah tweeted a reaction (complete with a Mariah GIF, the only way to react to anything) — and she didn't sugarcoat things.

"S--t happens 😩 Have a happy and healthy new year everybody!🎉 Here's to making more headlines in 2017 😂," she wrote.
