The brave men of the Oklahoma City Fire Department went above and beyond the other day.

Firefighters are used to rescuing people, dogs, cats, probably even birds and fish. However, a python is not your average family pet.

The story starts when the Oklahoma City Fire Department was called to a residence on North McKinley after smoke was seen coming from the house.

The two residents were able to get out safely, along with the family dogs. The fire department did have to go inside and rescue one other member of the family - a python.

From the video and photos, the snake looks to be a pretty decent size.

One member of the fire department said, "If it's a family pet, we will do everything in our power to rescue them." Including geckos, lizards and yes snakes."

No one was injured in the fire and the fire was extinguished just after the fire departments arrival.
