UPDATE: (6/14/16 5:00 PM): The armed suspect who was shot and killed by Amarillo SWAT at a Walmart has been identified as 54-year-old Mohammad Moghaddam.

The two hostages Moghaddam was holding, a store manager and another employee, were released and uninjured. Police are calling the incident a "work-related dispute."


UPDATE (6/14/16 12:50 PM): Amarillo police have confirmed that a gunman who took at least one hostage at a Walmart has been shot and killed.

According to police, an armed employee stormed the Walmart around 11:00 am Tuesday morning and took a co-worker hostage.

Just before 1:00 pm, SWAT officers shot and killed the unidentified suspect during a standoff.

Amarillo police are on the scene of a possible hostage situation at a Walmart.

According to police, there is an armed subject inside the Walmart store at 4215 Canyon Drive who may have hostages. There are no confirmed gunshot victims at this time.

“There are reports of an armed subject inside who may have hostages. More info when it’s available. Please avoid the area so that officers can focus on the scene and not traffic,” Amarillo police said in a statement. 

Police are searching for a Somalian man wearing Kakhi pants.
